[section_heading]The NBFSAN is Hiring! [/section_heading]

The New Brunswick Food Security Action Network has an exciting employment opportunity for a dynamic individual who has skills, knowledge and experience working with organizations, individuals and communities in the areas of food security, community development, and network coordination.

Job Summary- Managing Director: The Managing Director is responsible for the administration and coordination of the NBFSAN, while working within interdisciplinary network of organizations, groups, and individuals who are supporting food security across the province of New Brunswick. The Managing Director identifies new and emerging opportunities for members and partners that support the vision, mission and strategic goals of the NBFSAN. The Managing Director is responsible in supervising the Programs Coordinator and Farm to School NB Coordinator to ensure network deliverables are being met and progress is being tracked and shared with the NBFSAN. Additionally, the Managing Director is responsible in supporting the establishment of the network’s governance model and development of a plan to diversify network funding.

[section_heading]Live Well! Bien Vivre! is Hiring! [/section_heading]

Reporting to the Live Well! Bien Vivre!  Project Manager, the Health Coach is a non-clinical professional who is trained to interact with people in an effort to develop healthier behaviour and lifestyle practices in their own local communities. The Health Coach will develop a network of community resources, incorporating four programs offered by the Canadian Diabetes Association, in addition to programs offered via the Province of New Brunswick and other local organizations to offer practical support and tools for clients as they achieve their individual health goals.  The ability to motivate people is a key part of the role, as the Health Coach will focus on establishing relationships and communicating with individuals and groups in the local community, providing information on health and wellbeing, networking with other agencies and organizations, and working with individuals to adopt healthier lifestyles. Click HERE for more information.[section_heading]Last Call for Food Secure Canada’s Early bird registration [/section_heading]

Early bird registration deadline is September, 2nd. Don’t wait ! You only have today left to get the $50 discount (and up to $160 for FSC’s members- NBFSAN members can use our discount!) on your Food Secure Canada’s 8th biennial Assembly registration (November 13-16, Halifax). The complete program will be issued in the next few weeks. But you can already see a preliminary list of workshops, sessions and speakers.

[section_heading] New Brunswick releases revamped Wellness Strategy [/section_heading]

The provincial government has released a renewed wellness strategy for New Brunswick. New Brunswick’s Wellness Strategy 2014-2021 provides a framework that will enable any community, school, workplace, organization, family or individual to see how their goals, activities, or mandates are supported by improved wellness and how they can contribute to enhancing wellness within the province. Click HERE for more information.

This year, Wellness Week will continue to provide opportunities for schools, workplaces, groups, organizations and communities to help promote and celebrate wellness by hosting activities and events that address mental fitness, healthy eating, physical activity and tobacco-free living.  [section_heading] Farm to School NB Updates COMING SOON! [/section_heading]

Last May, the NBFSAN partnered with Farm to Cafeteria Canada to hire a NB Farm to School Coordinator and select 8 schools here in NB to receive funding for Farm to School projects. Numerous advisory members of groups involved in Farm to School programs across the province helped us with this task. Over the summer, the schools have been finalizing their project plans and contracts. We’re excited to share all of the details of this partnership in September, as soon as contract details are all wrapped up!

In the future, our monthly e-newsletters will include a link to Farm to School news that will be updated regularly by our new Farm to School NB Coordinator, Kelsey Wilson (kelsey@nbfsan-rasanb.ca). Stay tuned.

[section_heading] The Aviva Community Fund is back! [/section_heading]

What would you do for your community if given the opportunity? Each year, groups across Canada respond to the call put out by the Aviva Community Fund. The formula is simple: they provide funding while you provide the ideas! The best ideas, based on a national vote, will split $1 000 000 of funding. Submit your idea by September 23, 2014. Consult the Aviva Community Fund website to obtain more information. Check out the Idea Guide with all the tools needs to plan, submit, and promote your fantastic idea!

[section_heading] New project: Students for Good Food for All [/section_heading]

Meal Exchange is teaming up with Community Food Centres Canada on a new project: Students for Good Food for All. The project will empower students to cultivate mutually beneficial connections between campuses and Community Food Centres. By combining the groundbreaking CFC-model and the passion of student-leaders, Students for Good Food for All will have positive impacts on community and campus food security. Read more and get involved
